A (-nother) Genius passed away

This guy has successfully put a ding in the universe.
Innovation - one thing that makes him different to others, a leader, not a follower.
His taste makes Apple as incredible as it is now and might be a lot better if he got more chance.
Raised in such a complicated background, didn't take a normal campus life, being kicked out of a company that he started, being diagnosed with an incurable cancer that just made him more and more creative, what a story...
wasn't a romantic story at all, but following his terrific curiosity NeXT, PIXAR and all that finally led him back to his true love - Apple.
My deep condolences, may you rest in peace Mr. Jobs, you brought the best gadgets to the world.

Outrageous

I don't quit blogging people, just took an extremely long break writing in this playground ;p but I posted quite a number in my other playground Tumblr
The ryhtm of my life has been outrageously changed lately.
Never really sure what's behind this change but I kinda lost in it.
not gonna talk bout that in this post, too miserable.

Time flies and my first year in Holland has gone without me knowing it.
Despite one optional course that I ignore, all the courses have been taken and completed.
I've to do thesis research and internship this year. I started with the first one last July, expect to finish by January next year. Unlike most of friends of mine who prefer to do the thesis research in their home country, I pick Holland for my research. Specifically it's a newly reclaimed land in the north of Holland called Flevoland. This area is unique. It used to be part of the sea but due to an urgent need for expasion in 1917 the government of Holland reclaimed and enclosed this area to the mainland. I must admit that Dutch is at the forefront in water management, in early 19s they had successfully reclaimed and expand the area to the sea. Most of the area currently is allocated for agricultural activities.

Second thing on my ToDoList this year is internship. After few rejections from the UN-bodies and development agencies, I accidentally bump into an old friend from US in a workshop in Den Haag. He was one of the panelists in the workshop. Having a small chat during the tea break lead us to a conversation about internship in his joint project with my university. Apparently he is running an interesting project with one of the research centers in WUR now. The project is focusing on the land use policy optimisation in VietNam. The talk got more interesting and we set up a lunch meeting with people from the partnering research center from my unversity. I sent my CV, motivation and other supporting documents for their perusal and ayayayay..everything's set! :)

Ulang Tahun

Sudah lama rasanya saya dan Benny tidak saling merayakan ulang tahun satu sama lain.

Malam tadi saya menyapa dia melalui telepon berbasis internet protocol. Perbincangan singkat yang kurang lebih mengucapkan selamat merayakan hari kelahirannya. Ya hari ini adalah hari ulang tahun Benny.

Hampir lupa rasanya merayakan ulang tahun atau hari jadi lainnya.

Banyak hal terjadi dalam hubungan kami sembilan tahun terakhir, tetapi hanya sedikit diantaranya yang merupakan perayaan. Saya baru menyadari bahwa kami jarang membuat perayaan. Dia sering membelikan saya hadiah, gadget, baju atau apapun, begitu pula saya, tetapi kami jarang mengasosiasikan hadiah tersebut dengan perayaan tertentu - hanya menganggapnya sebagai pemberian biasa. Hubungan kami yang lebih banyak dihabiskan jarak jauh juga menjadi salah satu alasan kami tidak bisa merayakan ulang tahun satu sama lain.

Bagaimanapun, selamat ulang tahun boi...semoga kamu mendapat satu tahun yang dipenuhi kegembiraan dan kesehatan, terwujud semua cita-cita mu!

It has been a while Benny and I did not celebrate each other's birthday.

Last nite, I talked to him over Skype. A quick hi and happy birthday. Ya, today is his birthday.

I almost forget how it feels like to celebrate birthday and anniversary.

Lots of things happen in our relationship for this last nine years but only few of them are celebration.

I just realised that we rarely celebrate things. He often buy me some stuffs, gadget, clothes, everything and so do I, but we never associated those gifts to any celebration or other things like that - just consider those as ordinary gifts. Going distance is also one of the reasons we are not able to celebrate each other's birthday. We spend half of our time in this relationship being in a distance.

Anyway, I wish you a happy birthday boi...hope you have another year filled by happiness and health, realize your dreams!.

Queen's day runaway

Heyyo people...I've got one story left.

It was bout the escape during queen's day

am living in such a small city (well, I would say it's village). Wageningen is sort of a small city, located in Gelderland province. We rarely have any festival or events. Unlike Amsterdam or Den Haag which often have big concerts, festivals, open stages or any other events.

Dutch celebrate queen's day on 30 April and you normally can find lots of open stages and concerts in big cities like Amsterdam. Most of my friends went to big cities on that lovely sunny day, spent some time to see the whoop-de-do and go for drinks afterwards. But Shindi, affan and I were too tired to go for those kind of things. Woke up late, enjoy the morning lazily and we decided to have our lunch in the park, go for picnic! One of our pack missed, Sacha was away for the whole weekend during queen's nite + queen's day, but it was still fun anyway.

Sebut saya cengeng, tapi saya sedang merindukan Indonesia dan mencoba mengatasinya dengan menyimak radio Indonesia melalui online streaming dan bertemu lagu ini yang cukup manis meski boleh dibilang sedikit bernada sedih.

Rencana liburan musim panas

Pagi tadi diantara rehat kopi, saya berbincang dengan salah satu teman belanda saya tentang rencana liburan musim panas tahun ini. Cukup mengejutkan ketika dia bercerita tentang tiket dan semua tektek bengek perjalanan yang sudah disiapkan untuk menghabiskan dua bulan libur musim panasnya berkeliling Indonesia!

Saya mendadak iri luar biasa. Sudah lama saya dan Benny tidak pergi berlibur. Jadwal pekerjaan dia yang tidak pernah berkurang hari ke hari, skala prioritas sekolah saya, dan banyak hal membuat kami tidak sempat lagi sesantai dulu bisa kabur akhir pekan untuk berlibur.

Di awal studi saya di Belanda, sempat ada wacana untuk Benny mengunjungi saya selama libur musim panas dan kami bisa memulai lagi kesukaan jalan-jalan kami. Bahkan saya sangat bersemangat untuk datang ke salah satu konser Bon Jovi, band favorit kami! Tapi rencana berubah ketika dia memutuskan berhenti dari tempat kerja yang lama setelah Padang post-earthquake mission berakhir. Dia memilih mencari institusi baru setelah beberapa lama bergabung di jaringan pembangunan pasca bencana. Di tempat kerja baru tipikal pekerjaannya sedikit sulit untuk ditinggal cukup lama sampai dua bulan, lagipula beberapa bulan pertama ini semacam masa percobaan sebelum bisa mendapatkan kontrak yang lebih panjang. Rencana keliling eropa di musim panas pun perlahan kami lupakan. Saya memutuskan mulai mencari kemungkinan magang dan dia pun kembali dengan rutinitas pekerjaannya. Sampai kemudian hari ini saya mendengar rencana teman berkeliling Indonesia dan membuat saya sangat merindukan traveling.

During coffee this morning, a friend of mine brought a surprising summer holiday plan. She's gonna go to Indonesia and take a stroll in lots of cities there during the whole two months. What a plan! am sooo envy.

It's been a while I didn't go for traveling with Benny. His busy works that never been being less time to time, my priority for school, and all of the sudden that lock us in our daily routine. We didn't go for holiday any more, neither did weekend escape.

At the early stage of my study in Holland, Benny intended to come visit during summer holiday and go for backpacking within Europe. I even very much excited to come to one of Bon Jovi's concerts in Europe with Benny! But then Benny resigned from his job after Padang recovery network was finished. He got another job in different institution after spending quite a while in humanitarian affairs. His new position is quite demanding and looks impossible to leave more than a month. Moreover, this first few months is also sort of probation phase for him before getting the long-term contract. So, our exciting backpacking plan within Europe is gone by the time. I start to find summer internship opportunities and he focus on his work. Until today and I heard friend's exciting plan for summer holiday, I start to very much miss traveling.

owrait people, last 2 weekends were way too busy than I expected.

on 26-27 March a friend from Indonesia came to Amsterdam and I kinda escorted her for sightseeing. We visited Volendam and went around the city center of Amsterdam. More pics are here.

another friend of mine was leaving back to Indonesia for 1 month holiday and I took her to the airport last friday, she carried much more things than she intended to :p *pheww

I attended an Indonesian event in Den Haag as well, it's called Pasar Malam Indonesia (PMI) where you can find traditional performances, food, handicrafts, arts, and all about Indonesia. In addition to promoting Indonesian culture, I suppose this event is dedicated for nostalgia as there were lots of senior citizens coming to the event, ya Dutch ruled in Indonesia until 1945. PMI is conducted on 1-7 April 2011.

and my last weekend was closed by visiting Nijmegen with Mai and Luy, a small but cute city..rather close to wageningen, I traveled for only 30 mins to get there. pics are here.

I know, this post is somehow just a mess, not in a mood to write a good flow story. sorry for this.

ow yea, I leave this playground for couple of weeks..bang my head, am not a good blogger.
in spite of enjoying my new playground >> here in Tumblr, I also don't even realize that time flies and loads of thing happen to me recently even without am knowing it. Anyway few more thing bout Tumblr, I enjoy this micro-blogging features, easier and the layout looks fancy somehow. Then I turned to pay more attention there lately.

okay, first thing first...I finished my period 4 (Finally!). frankly I like the class in period 4, lots of new experiences. I had both field and pot experiments, bit of lab work, bit modeling...fun!
next thing is thesis and internship plan, time flies and I only have 1 period to go for courses and another year would be focusing on thesis and internship

I start to busy applying for internship and also approaching several thesis possibilities. Damn ya, thesis! this is irritating but exciting at the same time. am not gonna work too far beyond my ultimate background, climate. indeed, am now doing plant science for the degree but loads of its area related to climate. So I suppose there are some open possibilities for linking both fields.

soooo, I spend most of the time recently by doing 15 credits of courses in period 5 and thesis/internship plan.

Can't speak further, this post's just sort of quick update and return [?]...hasta la vista, ciao!

Welkom bij Nederland

This country never stops giving me surprising story. After a wow story about my m-drive, recently I just got another one.

Emptiness

I recently happen to come across an illuminating thought

"It was not the feeling of completeness I so needed, just the feeling of not being empty" - Foer, JS

somehow it sounds decently correct to me. well. completeness. what is it about?

I believe there are lots of meaning behind. people can even sense the completeness from many different angles one to another. so that to some extent I agree with Foer, we might actually not need the completeness but just the feeling of not being empty.

Some people luckily gets a chance n jacked up their knowledge, gain more insights by pursuing the degree abroad in more advance institutions. Hope to get the best available sciences. But then everything turns out to be disaster when you did not prepare yourself to fit in the highly demanding and pressure-full system of this what-so-called advance institutions. Last Wednesday, a student committed suicide in my apartment. He comes from a least developed country. He jumped over the guardrail of the 5th floor. Seems that life is too hard for him and he came to the conclusion that he'd be better to just leave his life. Life is about chasing up the completeness. But I bet you'd never found it though. All you need is just the feeling of not being empty. From my two cents, I must say enjoy your life, do not take anything too seriously. Fill up yourself. Do not let the emptiness kill you, but do not be frustrated when you can't get the completeness.

He's just passed away anyway. Our deepest sympathies are with his family and friends. Hope he RIP.

but then I realized that the race - which is on 20 March - is unfortunately in the middle of my period 4 courses. Looks impossible for me to leave wageningen during that time.

so then I slightly change the plan, do the trip earlier then probably will lose the chance to see the race by doing so

a week more to go and Period 3 is finished!

an exam+presentation for the final result of assignment are coming along by the end of this period

and I'm here now. Silently looking at the computer screen. Wishing that everything there would have been channeled out by a magical hand to my empty head.

anyhowww...good thing is: am gonna take a little stroll to barca and rome after the exam, yayyyy!

Lovely to see how he is now. Back in 2006, he was just a little boy that kinda confused by some cultural changes.He used to live in Japan for quite a while, barely spoke Bahasa Indonesia.
